Bio

After more than six years as a newspaper journalist and 38 years as a trial lawyer, Bob Rothman wrote the first words of what would become his debut novel, A Terrible Guilt.  The novel, a legal thriller that examines the multiple human failings leading to the conviction of and death sentence for an innocent man, is based on Bob’s experiences in each of his earlier careers.

As a journalist, Bob reported on the reinstatement of capital punishment in the late 1970s, including a death row interview with John Spinkelink days before he was executed by the state of Florida in May 1979.

As a lawyer, Bob spent ten years leading a team of volunteer lawyers and paralegals at his law firm, Arnall Golden Gregory LLP, representing a death row inmate in his habeas corpus proceeding. He was part of or led trial teams that won multiple multi-million-dollar verdicts in securities fraud cases and contract disputes. He also has served the legal profession as a member of the American Bar Association Board of Governors, Chair of the ABA Section of Litigation, and Chair of the ABA Death Penalty Representation Project, among other volunteer positions.

Bob and his wife, Dee, who met as competing journalists in 1974 and married in 1975, live in Atlanta. They have two children and one grandchild.
